The Glitz and Glamour Ball 2008 in aid of the SDBTT Claire Rowland Fund on 15th November 2008 at Hangar One, Sywell. Tickets are £60/head. We've only got a few more tables of ten left. So if you would like to come along in November you will need to make your booking now. In August 2005 Claire Rowland started to complain of headaches.
After many tests and a CT scan Julie and Tony, Claire’s parents, were given the devastating news that Claire had a Glioblastoma Multiforme tumour, one of the most malignant forms of brain tumour. Claire was given a life expectancy of 12 months. The consultant said, “I’m sorry, there is very little we can do. Take her home and make the most of the time that you have left.”
Claire died peacefully at home in her parents' arms on 20th July, 2006.
Claire’s family decided to raise money for the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust (SDBTT). This is the largest dedicated brain tumour charity in the UK. The aim of the charity is to raise awareness of brain tumours and to raise funds for research to improve survivability and to help to find a cure for brain tumours.
It is their wish that other families in the future faced with the diagnosis of a brain tumour may hear their consultants say “There is a treatment and the long term outlook is good”. Supporting SDBTT makes this possible.
In November 2008 it would have been Claire’s 14th birthday and on Saturday, 15th November there will be a glittering Charity Ball in aid of the SDBTT Claire Rowland Fund. “The Glitz and Glamour” Ball will be held at Hangar One, Sywell Aerodrome, Sywell, Northampton. Tickets again will be sold on tables of ten people, for which we are now taking bookings. Please contact Sue Whatton. Tel: 01604 864030, Email: tickets@glitzandglamourball.com
There has already been considerable interest in this Ball as a result of the resounding success of the 2007 inaugural ball. To be part of one of Northampton’s premier fund-raising event and to avoid disappointment, contact Sue to reserve your tickets now.

| Some little known facts:
• March is Brain Tumour Awareness month. • More children die from brain tumours than from meningitis.
• A child diagnosed with a brain tumour has a 60% chance of survival after 5 years compared with an 85% chance of survival in leukaemia.
• 4,500 adults are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour each year in the UK, in addition to 13,500 diagnosed with a secondary tumour from other cancer.
Research into brain tumours remains desperately under-funded
